The call for applications for volunteering at Type-A Parent Conference 2013 Atlanta and Type-A Advanced New Orleans is now open (and yes, you can even apply for both if you’d like). The deadline for our fifth annual conference (to be held September 27-29 in Atlanta) is May 15, and the deadline to apply for our New Orleans event (to be held October 19) is June 15.

Please be aware that we receive many applications, that it takes several weeks to notify everyone, and that this is an application and no guarantee you will in fact be accepted as a volunteer. As our Philly event sold out weeks in advance, if you want a guarantee of attending I would go ahead and register now (for Atlanta here, or New Orleans here) if you can. If selected to volunteer, your pass will be refunded.

But when we were making up the agenda we wanted you to be able to get even more bang for your buck, so we made the schedule in such a way that you could actually customize the conference to your specific interests. Each of those options allows you to attend specific sessions that can help you in that area — and only one overlaps with another (hey, YOU try getting all these awesome sessions into one day!). That means you can maximize your time learning about what matters to you. And, of course, you can just wing it or even stay in a particular track if that’s what interests you most. We just wanted to give you as many options as we could.

One thing I want to point out is the new track we’re adding to this conference: Expert Tables. You can read more about them on the Session Description page, but here’s the gist:

The Expert Tables are not sessions, they are discussions. You’ll have access to experienced colleagues and friends who know the ins and outs of their topic. YOU, the attendees, drive the conversations. This is your chance to ask questions and get answers. Think of it as if you went to Starbucks to get a coffee and you ran into a colleague and you started chatting about work and ended up giving each other advice and helping each other solve a few key problems. THAT’S what an Expert Table is. So come armed with your questions!

Things are hopping with Type-A Parent events! We just announced our Type-A Advanced Philly schedule (sold out!). In just a few days, we also have two major deadlines for our fifth annual Type-A Parent Conference in Atlanta, so be sure not to miss your chance:

Legal Issues When Blogging for Profit. Writing Sponsored Posts Your Readers Will Love. Bloggers, Brands and Pay. Those are just some of the sessions.

The speakers include authors, lawyers and some of the biggest names in new media. The speakers include a founder of Affiliate Summit, a founder of Blogalicious Weekend and the senior manager of brand PR and consumer engagement for The Hershey Company. Just to name a few. Melanie Nelson is a social media trainer and consultant who has been helping businesses market online since 1995. She recently wrote Facebook All-In-One for Dummies.

Melanie owns BloggingBasics101.com, a nationally recognized site that provides tips and instructions for beginning and intermediate bloggers. Her blog has been featured on Mashable, as well as Hubspot’s list of “10 Amazing Blogs About Blogging to Start Reading NOW.”  Her newest venture, Summit Integrated Media, offers online and in-house social media and blogging training.

Meanwhile, also be sure to submit a speaker proposal before the deadline just TEN days away (January 31). You can submit a proposal here. Just please don’t ONLY submit a proposal if you want to attend either way, but instead add your name to the waitlist and then submit a speaking proposal.

If you want to register for the annual Type-A Parent Conference, also don’t delay. Last year, signups for the small group hands-on sessions were extremely competitive. While they are free for attendees they have a limited capacity, and most slots were gone in minutes. We never expected them to be so popular, so this year in anticipation we will announce signup for hands-on sessions well in advance of the conference. Only those already registered will be able to sign up. We hope this will limit the number of people who can register to make it easier for early pass-holders to get a spot. The famous rotating Carousel Bar at Hotel Monteleone

I am pleased to make the next Type-A Advanced announcement. Type-A Advanced New Orleans will be held on October 19, 2013 at the Hotel Monteleone (booking will be available soon at $269/night for double occupancy). I have personally stayed at the hotel and it is just stunningly beautiful (pictured is the famous rotating Carousel Bar in the lobby), its location is amazing (right in the heart of the French Quarter), not to mention it is one of only three US hotels designated an official literary landmark.

Type-A Advanced are smaller, intensive one-day conferences geared at experienced bloggers. They will have high-quality sessions on a variety of topics related to blogging, business and social media, as well as one laser-focus track on a specific topic.

For the New Orleans event, that focus will be:

VISUALIZE

This means there will be one track concentrated exclusively on photography, iPhoneography, photo editing, blog design, creating great pin-worthy images and graphics, and the boom in visual social networks like Instagram and Pinterest. We will kick off the night before the conference, and attendees will get hands-on, in-the-field learning during a photowalk in New Orleans’ highly photogenic French Quarter.
