Type a Conference publishes practical guides for the people who organise conferences — programme chairs, organising committees, society administrators and professional conference organisers — rather than for the people who attend them.
What is here
The material covers the whole run-up and the event itself: forming a committee and setting a budget, choosing a venue, building sponsorship packages, writing a call for papers, managing abstracts and running peer review, publishing a programme, registration, badges and signage, data protection, and collecting feedback afterwards. There is a parallel set of guides on running events online and in hybrid formats.
Who writes it
Articles are written and edited in-house and published under the name of the editorial team rather than an individual byline. We are not a conference organiser, a venue, or a software vendor, and we do not sell event services.
How to use it
Conference practice varies enormously by field. A 5,000-delegate medical congress and a 90-person workshop share almost nothing except the order in which things have to happen. Treat the lead times and checklists here — including the back-planner — as a starting point to adjust, not a standard to follow.
